Lift The Smoke
Firefighters and emergency workers have a single purpose to serve the community and are dedicated to help its citizens in time of emergency. Emergencies can span non-life threatening events to terrifying unknown fires to horrific vehicle fatality accidents. Over time this constant barrage of exposure to these traumatic stressor events can lead to post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). There is no escaping. This becomes a mentally choking smoke that clouds their ability to function. Their coping mechanisms to clear the smoke become vitally important to their health and well being.
The impact of PTSD is extremely prevalent within the fire service. It affects between 7% to 37% of firefighters across Canada – and it is a global problem. It annually costs fire departments millions of dollars in lost productivity. It impacts the lives of firefighters, their colleagues and families. Worst case, firefighters are taking their lives.
This is UNACCEPTABLE! It is time for change.
Pyroc is founded to wage a war against PTSD and lift the smoke that has emergency responders shackled. We will build a solution to a serious problem that is decreasing the efficiency of our firefighter and other first responders.
